Japan and the United States on Friday announced their first guidelines for “extended deterrence,” including U.S. nuclear protection, to better tackle security challenges posed by China and North Korea.
The document is intended to strengthen the Japan-U.S. alliance’s “existing consultation and communication procedures related to extended deterrence,” the two governments said in a press release, though details were not disclosed.
