Chinese President Xi Worries About Military Loyalty

It seems that Chinese President Xi Jinping has done exactly what Zhuge Liang, a Chinese statesman and military strategist, did to his trusted general Ma Su nearly two thousand years ago.

Perhaps not exactly, during the Three Kingdoms period, Zhuge Liang, who served as chancellor and later regent of the state of Shun, broke down in tears when he ordered Ma Su’s beheading as a military disciplinary punishment.

On November 28, 2024, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Defense suddenly announced at a press conference, using a stern tone, that a senior military official, Miao Hua, had been suspended from his post due to suspected serious violations of discipline!

Miao Hua, 69, is a member of the Central Military Commission and director of the Political Work Department of the Central Military Commission, a general, the highest rank in the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (the Central Military Commission is the highest military body overseeing the People’s Liberation Army).

This is a very important position within the military, as the director of the Political Work Department is responsible for managing the organization and personnel affairs, as well as political ideas, including Xi Thought (named after Chinese President Xi Jinping).

Miao Hua is widely seen as very close to the Chinese president, and there are only six members of the Central Military Commission, including the chairman (who is the general secretary of the ruling Communist Party), and they participate in every decision on important military matters.

Although the current Chinese president has greatly consolidated his power, he remains concerned about the loyalty of the military to him, as the PLA has several branches, including the army, navy, air force and missile force.

The Chinese president chose Miao Hua to the key post of the Central Military Commission as his proxy, so to speak, to politically control all branches, but the Chinese president was unable to continue to protect Miao Hua!
